e-News® | The NEWS Company…LONDON, Dec 5, 2015 : The US and the UK delegations attending the Paris climate conference said different least developed countries including Bangladesh could play a vital role to sign a legally binding agreement in reducing global warning. They made the observation when they met Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju separately on Saturday on the sidelines of the conference, according to a message received here from Paris today.
The US delegation that comprises four Senators discussed how Bangladesh can better address the climate change challenges. They said the United States thought that Bangladesh should be given importance in the Paris climate conference since the people of the country are the worst victim of adverse effect of climate change. They appreciated the people of Bangladesh for developing resilience to face the adverse impact of climate change. Anwar Hossain Manju thanked the US delegation for their role on climate change issue.
The US Senators who attended the meeting were Jeff Merkley, Tom Udall, Al Franken and Cory Booker. Later, the Environment Minister had a meeting with UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Climate Change Lord Bourne. During the meeting, they discussed different aspects of climate change issues.
Lord Bourne highly appreciated Bangladesh for its active role in climate change issue and said that the UK would support Bangladesh on the issue relating to climate change. Describing the UK as a longtime friend of Bangladesh, Bourne, who was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Wales Office in May this year, expressed the hope that Bangladesh would play a pivotal role to pass the legally binding agreement in climate change in Paris.
Forest and Environment Secretary Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, member of Bangladesh delegation to Paris Climate Conference Dr. Kazi Khaliquzzaman and Publisher and Executive Director of the Daily Ittefaq Tarin Hossain accompanied the minister.
