e-News® | The NEWS Company…NEW DELHI, Aug 19, 2015 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina here today paid rich tributes to Suvra Mukherjee, the wife of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, by placing a wreath at her coffin. The Prime Minister laid the wreath at the coffin of the Suvra Mukherjee at 13 Tal Katra Road residence of Abhijit Mukherjee, the son of Pranab Mukherjee, here this morning.
Along with the Indian President, Sheikh Hasina later joined the funeral of Suvra Mukherjee held at Lodi Road Crematorium in the Indian capital. Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the funeral.
Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, PM’s daughter Saima Hossain, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present on the occasion, among others. Earlier, the Prime Minister went to Rastrapati Bhaban to console the Indian President and his family members. Sheikh Hasina stayed there for some time and recalled her long time relations with Suvra Mukherjee.
She said Bangladesh has lost a great friend and well-wisher with her passing away and prayed the bereaved family to have the courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Indian capital to attend the funeral of Suvra Mukharjee. A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Dehli at 7.50 am local time.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bangladesh High Commissioner to New Delhi Syed Moazzem Ali received the Prime Minister at the airport.
