2011 could be the year of the virtual stocking as Christmas apps start to trickle into the UK App Store Charts.
Four of the 15 new entries in this week’s charts use festive features to get buyers into the spirit of Christmas.
Talking Santa for iPhone was one of two new entries on the paid iPhone chart, at ninth on the list.
Anyone choosing to fork out 69p for the app gets to own a unique 3D likeness of Santa which talks.
The other new entry was a 69p game based on hit TV game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, which charted at number five. WhatsApp Messenger, a free messaging client, returned to the top spot after a week at number two.
The free iPhone chart saw last week’s number seven, Idiot Test: Way Too Funny, leap into the top spot.
This rapid-fire game sees players answer a series of seemingly simple questions.
Another new entry was Christmas Advent Calendar: The Best 25 Free Apps, which moved into number six.
The app allows users to open a new window on the advent calendar every day, revealing a new free app.
In the iPad apps paid chart, new entry Chess, 69p, moved straight into the top spot, knocking Apple’s word processor Pages into second place.
