SANGSAD BHABAN, July 8 – PayPal, a renowned international online payment gateway, would keep its footstep in Bangladesh soon, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul informed the Jatiya Sangsad here today.
“The government has taken initiative for bringing back the money at home earned through outsourcing at low cost and for this, it (government) has discussed the issue of introduction of the service of PayPal with its representatives,” he said in reply to a question from treasury bench member Begum Amina Ahmed.
Muhith said PayPal is examining its business viability, expressing hope that the outsource service providers would get the benefits of PayPal
The finance minister said Bangladesh Bank issued a circular on August 7 giving directives to the banks to bring back the money through online payment gateways.
In the light of the circular, he said, Bank Asia Limited has already signed an agreement with Alertop, another world-renowned
online payment gateway.
Under the deal, the money earned against invisible services like data entry/processing, offshore IT services and business outsourcing is being remitted in Bangladesh at a cost of less than three US dollars.
