RANGPUR, – Objective journalism with constructive criticism on digitisation could make the process successful in reaching all government services to people’s doorsteps in a hassle-free manner, speakers at a training course said here today.
They were addressing a daylong divisional level ‘Media Reporting Training on Digital Bangladesh’ organised for the journalists of Rangpur division at Circuit House auditorium in the city.
Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB) organised the course with the assistances of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)- funded Access to Information (A2I) Programme being implemented by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Delwar Bakht attended the inaugural ceremony and formally launched the course as the chief guest with Rangpur Press Club President AKM Fazlul Haque in the chair.
Communication Consultant of A2I Programme of the PMO Hassan Md Benaul Islam delivered presentation on “What is Digital Bangladesh? Why? Present Progress” and narrated tremendous successes achieved so far, positive impacts and challenges.
Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Rajshahi University Dr Pradip Kumar Panday delivered presentations on ‘Role of Mass Media in Creating Public Awareness on Digital Bangladesh’ and ‘Reporting on Digital Bangladesh, Feature Analyses: Concept-Structure.’
Forty-five journalists from the electronic, print and online media from all over Rangpur division participated in the course coordinated and moderated by Senior Trainer of PIB Rafiza Rahman.
As a part of the nationwide media networking, Rangpur chapter of Development Journalists’ Forum was formed in the course to build up communication of the journalists with the A2I Programme at the PMO for positive reporting on digitisation to create mass public awareness.
Citing various statics, the resource persons said common people have been getting all digital e-services easily at doorsteps in a hassle-free manner from the union information service centres (UISCs) and other web portals at the district and upazila levels.
Because of digitisation, extent of corruption and proximity has been reduced to the minimum establishing more accountability and transparency in the government service centres, organisations, departments and offices in recent years, they said.
Giving maximum credits to media workers for achievements in digitisation process, the speakers asked them for working as ‘agents for brining social change’ though positive reporting on digitisation to create mass public awareness for a complete success.
