e-News® | The NEWS Company…DHAKA, July 27, 2015 : The National Fisheries Week begins tomorrow with the slogan: In ocean, river, all water, fish culture creates gold.
The weeklong celebration is held, every year, to create greater awareness among the people about the country’s fish resources. Apart from being the major source of protein for the nation, fisheries are also a major economic activity, accounting for a significant part of the country’s exports. This year, too, there will be programmes at the national and distract levels.
A rally to commemorate the day will begin at 8 in the morning from Matshya Bhaban and end at the Jatiya Press Club. It will be followed by a press conference at the Fisheries Directorate at 10 am. On the second day of the Week, Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate the programme and distribute prizes among 18 people and institutions for special contribution to the sector. She will also release fish fries at Gono Bhaban pond. Supplements will be published in different national dailies.
On the third day, President Abdul Hamid will release fish fries at the Bangabhaban pond and in the evening Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will inaugurate a five-day fish festival at the Krishibid Institute. On the fourth day of the programme, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will release fish fries at the parliament complex lake.
On the fifth day, a painting exhibition by children will be held at the Shishu Academy. Besides a number of meetings, video exhibitions will also be held. And as part of the national program religious affairs’ minister will inaugurate a two-day fish-technology festival at Mymensingh.
On the sixth day, a national seminar will be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on “Code of Conduct for Bangladesh Shrimp Industry.”
On the last day of the festival, the concluding session of the Fisheries Week will be held at the Matshya Bhaban. Besides, a number of programs will also be held at the district level.
