MYMENSINGH, Sept 15, 2013 – Bangabandhu’s grandson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s IT adviser son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said Bangladesh will be freed from poverty totally, if Awami League(AL) is voted to power again in the next general election.
“Awami League is pledge-bound to its people to bring developments in all the sectors and we have been successful in our tenure over the past four and a half years,” he said while addressing a largely attended workers’ rally of Awami League at local gymnasium in the district headquarters this evening.
District Awami League (AL) organised the programme. “Awami League is working relentlessly for the overall development of the country and its people and during its present tenure, many educational institutions and healthcare centres have been established to support the people,” said Joy.
Criticising the previous BNP-led government’s rule, the Prime Minister’s IT affairs adviser said the BNP-led four party alliance could not even produce a single megawatt of electricity but the Awami League-led grand alliance government could raise the power generation to 9000 megawatt from 3500 megawatt during its tenure.
“We have made Bangladesh a digital one and set up union-level digital information centres so that people can get their necessary information easily,” said Joy.
“The country will return to the dark ages and face corruption, terrorism and bomb attacks, if BNP wins the next parliamentary poll,” he said.
Joy also said that bomb attacks were a common feature during the BNP-led government’s tenure and a total of 24 leaders of Awami League were killed in the August 21 grenade attack of 2004 in Dhaka and the attack was designed at Hawa Bhaban.
“On the contrary, not a single bomb was blasted during the AL’s tenure,” he said. The revolution to build a Sonar Bangla (golden Bangla) to achieve economic freedom was started after 1971 but it was stalled after the August 15 carnage of 1975, said Joy adding: “Awami League has now been working to finish the unfinished revolution.”
He also urged the leaders and workers of AL to project the developments accomplished by the Awami League-led government so that they could compare the present tenure of AL with the past BNP-led four party alliance’s regime.
“When leaders and workers of Awami League are united, none can defeat the party and it was proved in different times and so we should get united as the next national election is round the corner,” Joy said pointing at party workers.
He also appealed to the people of Mymensingh to vote the Awami League to power again in the next election for achieving the desired development of the country.
Presided over by president of Mymensingh District AL Principal Motiur Rahman, MP, the meeting was also attended, among others, by state minister for Social Welfare Advocate Promode Mankin, MP, Advocate Muslem Uddin, MP, Advocate Reza Ali, MP, Mymensingh Zila Parishad administrator Advocate Johirul Hoque Khoka, AL secretary Abdul Matin Sarker, Prime Minister’s special assistant (media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil, Awami Juba League chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury, AL central leaders Enamul Haque Shamim and Abdus Sobhan Golap.
Earlier, Joy also addressed a roadside rally at RK High School ground in Muktagachha upazila this afternoon. KM Khaled Babu, MP, president of Muktagachha upazila AL, presided over the rally.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life, particularly leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies, from different parts of the district attended the programme chanting full-throated slogans welcoming the maiden tour of Joy in Mymensingh district.
In his speech, Joy also thanked Mymensingh-dwellers for accorded him a warm reception.
